It takes a village...

There's an African proverb that says "it takes a whole village to raise a child".  I'm sure it could be interpreted a few different ways, as all of our "villages" are different, and some may agree or disagree.

This is part of my village.

I'm a social gal, and I need people in my life. I need people other than my immediate family. I need friends, and my kids need friends. I need people in my life that believe differently than I do, and I need people that believe the same. The folks above are in the second category. All of these sweet smiling faces are homeschooling mamas and homeschooled kiddos, that believe in Jesus and the redemption of His blood. These women are encouraging, supportive and uplifting, and they came together for a brunch to celebrate my stay-at-home-mama-ness.

This is the newest member of the village. Sweet Baby Lyric. He likes me already, he told me so.

The older I have gotten, the more I realize the actual need I have for other people. I need that community, and that fellowship. I need those people that are older and wiser, that I can learn from, and ask for input and advice from. I need them to love my family, and to share their "remember when" stories. I need friends that are in my same season, and I need friends that are younger than me as well.

Life is about so much more than vacations and entertainment and houses and cars and parties and computers and making money and spending money, and keeping up with the Jones's, and the curtains I want for my kitchen. It's about people. It's about loving people wherever you are.  It's about celebrating the life we've been given with the people we share it with.
Hooray for that!
