Lilly's 3rd Birthday Party: A Luau

Oh wow. What a weekend. Since, (as you probably know) this story is a doozy, I'm going to break it into two parts. This post will be about a beautiful summer evening, family and friends, and fun. Tomorrow's post, will be "the rest of the story"....

It was a beautiful summer evening. Bella and I had chosen the perfect location for a Hawaiian Luau Dinner (without having to go to an ocean). Mullet Lake Park is located in the middle of Geneva. It's quiet and out of the way. The pavilion area is lakefront, and decorated with large, beautiful, moss covered trees. It's shady and breezy and calm, and perfect for seeing some wildlife (ahem...) and Bella and I thought it made a great spot to celebrate our family's littlest love.

We hung leis from the rafters, and used pineapples for centerpieces.

I love these fun beverage dispensers, and re-using ball jars for party after party. I seriously think there is always a use for a Ball jar!

Here we are, ready to celebrate our sweet baby girl, so excited for a night full of fun and family and friends. I wish I had a picture of what we all would look like in just three short hours. Shirt and shorts stained with bar-be-cue sauce, three children with dirty feet and dirty fingernails, three girls with messy, wild, untamed hair, jeans shorts smelling a little fishy, a pink dress reeking of vomit, and pretty little yellow shirt damp with a mixture of blood and tears...

Anyway, friends and family joined, Hawaiian music played in the background, children fished and played in the dirt, grown-ups talked, and it was so nice. The wind was blowing and I almost forgot that it was still summer in Florida.

For the favor/art project, the children (and/or their mamas) were able to make a seashell wind chime. As it turns out, most kids just want to fish and play in the dirt, when given the opportunity.

Our menu included BBQ chicken, Hawaiian Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Pineapples, Chips and veggies.

Chloe caught this giant catfish!

It was a beautiful night, and three very special, short years were celebrated.
We are thankful, so very, very thankful for family and friends that share this life with us.
We gave thanks for our sweet baby girl, for what she means to us and how she has blessed us.
We are so grateful to our Father in Heaven that has trusted us with her life.
And we pray that we will be the parents God has designed us to be. That we would love her, and teach her, and treasure her, and help her to be the woman God has called her to be.

The End!
