Because He lives!

This weekend was oh, so good.
On Saturday, my mom came over to watch the kids so that I could go spend the afternoon with my sweet girlfriends. I just calculated, and I think we have been friends since 1991. Whaaat?!? I met these two in 7th grade, which means we have been friends for almost two thirds of my life. Isn't that crazy? Where has the time gone? How have I gotten so old? Did I have these little crows feet in high school? Anyway, I love them (the girls, not the crows feet), and I LOVE the fact that we were able to meet for lunch, get a pedicure, and do some shopping. Old friends are just good therapy.

Here's some exciting news: our church just closed on a building on a nice piece of land in DeBary to be our new church home. There is a bunch of renovations and beautifying to be done, so yesterday Bryan and my dad and a bunch of other super talented hard workers from church were scraping and building and knocking out walls and cutting down trees... the work will continue over the next few weeks, and before we know it, I'll be posting an "after" picture. I can't wait!

While I was out with the girls, and the guys were working, my mom was busy at home, making a cake for our Easter dinner (which we celebrated on Saturday, since Bryan was working on Sunday). Bella and Grady made the cake and the icing pretty much all by themselves, and Bella decorated it. They were so proud of their cake, and it was delicious. Great job Bella & Grady (and mom)!

We ate dinner on the back porch, and then sat around an evening fire in the pit. Good stuff. Lilly and Grady were "making snow angels" on the patio.

Sunday we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord.
Were it not for that empty grave, risen Lord, living in me, life would be meaningless.

I tried to get a bunch of kids to sit down pretty for a picture... what was I thinking? The next five pictures completely make me laugh. There are so many different expressions and personalities, and Lilly... oh, Lilly.

Kids are just funny. And they make me smile.

After church, we went to lunch at a Chinese restaurant, and came home for naps and festivities, and Skyping with our family in Pennsylvania. I love that we have the ability to see them and talk to them.

My mom played Chutes and Ladders with Bella, and Grady played on their new little gift from my dad. I'm praying for no broken arms or cracked heads in my future... you can pray too. This has since moved inside to the carpet, and it's oddly fun.

Bryan and I have been extremely blessed with generous parents who love gift giving and celebrating. The kids did Easter basket activities with Bryan's parents on Friday while I was at work, and then we celebrated with my family on Sunday.
My mom had planned something fun and different this year. She hid eggs outside for the kids, but each child was only supposed to find their color of egg.

When all of the eggs had been retrieved, we went inside to open them. Inside each child's eggs were clues about where to find their Easter basket. So it was kind of like a fun scavenger hunt.

As much as we love presents and baskets, and traditionally nontraditional celebrations, there is so much more to the reason we rejoice. As Easter Sunday turns into Monday, and Tuesday and next week and next month, the reason for our hope remains. And life is worth the living, just because he lives.

God sent his son
They called him Jesus
He came to love
Heal and forgive
He lived and died
To buy my pardon
An empty grave
Is there to prove
My Savior lives

Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because I know
He holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because he lives
