Labor Day

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
(From the US Dept of Labor.)

A few days ago I got a hankerin' for a get-together. It's been a while. And hanging out with friends is just revitalizing. It feels good, and it makes me smile. So, I planned a little spur of the moment Labor Day cookout. Spur of the moment, like I didn't even know where we were going to find an available pavilion until an hour and a half before the party. But I found a great spot, full of breezy shade and a fishing spot, and it was perfect.

There were old friends and new friends, conversations, laughing, baby passing, and lots of delicious food contributed by everyone. And here's the thing about get-togethers: they are only fun when friends show up.  Even if I would have planned the most spectacular event, if my friends don't come, it's just no fun. So a big thank you to those that rocked "spur of the moment", and thanks for showing up!

Bryan was "fishing for kids".

There they go, two brave dads with a bunch of kids, heading down to the dock for some fishing.

Grady was the only one to catch a fish. He caught two gar fish. Thankfully, he's ok with catch and release.

We've been praying for this sweet little guy for a while now. He is over a month free of seizures. Hooray! Click here for his story.

We were packed up, and leaving, and as we were walking out, a man and a woman were walking towards us, with their two pet iguanas. It was a delightful end to the afternoon. They were gracious and let the kids ask questions and pet them.

I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day, and have a great short week!

  1. I think this is one of my favorite things about the church. That they like to hang out and spend time with one another, even on spur of the moment! It looks like it was a wonderful day! Great pictures as always! I love you captured Zeke and Grady's joy while fishing.
