What a weekend!

This has been a whirlwind weekend for us. It's the ebb and flow of life that keeps it interesting and fun, but good grief, sometimes it's exhausting.

I ended the weekend by asking my parents "not to be rude, just wondering, when will you be leaving?" Isn't that terrible?! I really was just trying to plan for the rest of the evening, dinner, clean-up, etc... but then when I fell asleep on the couch while they were still there, I think that just put the rude cherry right on top. I'm so sorry mom and dad!

The beginning of this weekend, started with the normal morning activities. Those activities include: half body dress-up, half body undress, chicken holding, and driving a chicken around on your lap in a car that is way too small.

When I put Lilly down for a nap, Bella laid and down on the couch and fell asleep, which is rare for her (in her second dress of the day). I really can't remember the last time she fell asleep on the couch. It did, however, give me a chance to get a picture of this sweet sleeping babe.

Friday night was the kick-off of our church's Vacation Bible School. I don't think I've ever done a VBS over the weekend, but it was so fun. Our message was shining God's light, and was coastal lighthouse themed. There were great seaside decorations, a boat and a dock, a huge lighthouse with a spinning light, crabby hats, and more. There were fun games, and stories, and crafts, and of course, dramas, skits and songs with hand motions.

Saturday morning we went back to church for Day 2. On the way home, the kids were singing the VBS songs in the car. Bella was trying to teach Grady and Lilly how to snap, and they were all singing so nicely, that I wanted to take a picture of the sweet moment, so I held up my camera and took the photo below.

Then the following ensued: Lilly wanted to play with her neshy, Bella tried to take her hand off of the necklace to teach her how to snap, Lilly screeched loudly, and then grabbed the necklace away from Bella and it burst into a hundred little plastic pearl beads all over the rental car. And the neshy is no longer. It was a very sad moment. I did not photograph that.

That night, before bed, Lilly was sitting on the potty, crying "neeeeshy, peeeeeeease" complete with pouty bottom lip. A small part of me laughs at the ridiculousness of it all, but not in front of her, of course.

Before the bedtime potty and the pouty lip incident, we had dinner with some good friends. There were chickens to hand feed and tadpoles to catch, there was fishing to do and dress-up play.

Sunday morning, we went back to church for the VBS finale. We pretty much did the VBS thing in "big church" with the songs, motions, a slide show and a skit, and the grown-ups were able to participate, and see what the children had been learning.

This was a song/skit about trusting in Jesus in all of life's stages (sickness, sadness, as a child, happiness and love, and old age). My shy Bella Grace played a little girl and Bryan played Jesus, and both did a great job.

Participating in this event has been such a blessing. The women and men that gave so generously of their time and money to invest in so many children (including my own) are inspiring. It was a privilege to be able to spend time with them this weekend and get to know them a little better. I am thankful to have this church family to call my own.

After church, we went to lunch with my parents, celebrated my mama's birthday, and then I fell asleep on the couch and probably drooled. The end.

  1. What a weekend! I loved how Grady went to stand right next to you on the stage Sunday morning.

    1. I didn't mind until he started tugging at the decorations! :o)

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of her necklace!
